Imagery: A radiant sun shines over a joyful child riding a white horse, surrounded by sunflowers.
General Themes: Joy, vitality, success, clarity, warmth, positivity.
The Sun Upright
This is a delicious card and one that makes me smile every time I pull it. It wants you to literally let the sunshine in. I think of this as the Beltane card, since it invokes soft, warm weather and the heady delights of blooming things. This is a card of abundance, fertility, and joy.
Don’t be afraid to let go and enjoy yourself. Celebrate your life in big and small ways. If Death or the Tower are some of the most feared cards in the deck (although unjustly so, in my humble opinion), The Sun card is one of the most beloved, right up there with The Lovers. It’s pure positivity and light. Embrace this moment of vitality and success, and bask in the warmth of this good omen.
Sometimes this card appears if you’ve been taking life too seriously. Lighten up! It’s blue skies ahead.
The Sun Reversed
This card appears reversed when you’re feeling down. Maybe life isn’t going as planned or you’re feeling stuck in a rut. The Sun reversed literally tells you to let the sunshine in. Things aren’t as bad as they seem. Right now, the best thing to do is to look on the bright side.
You’re too serious! Get playful. Loosen your grip on whatever situation you’re fixated on and make space for positive vibes. The reversal of this card wants you to open up to the joy all around you. Happiness is within reach if you allow yourself to grasp it.
