The Bruja's Guide to Tarot

The Moon

Imagery: A moon shines over a path flanked by two towers, with a dog, a wolf, and a creature emerging from water.

General Themes: Illusion, intuition, dreams, subconscious, uncertainty, mystery.

The Moon Upright

Ohhh, I love this card. Like the Seven of Cups, this is a card of illusion. However, the Moon is about our subconscious fears and the way they can distort our reality. If the Seven of Cups is about the illusion of options in the world, the Moon is about how self-doubt distorts our reality. The Moon wants you to cut through these toxic glamours to see the truth of things.

It shines a light on these hidden anxieties and shadow thoughts so that you are no longer controlled by them. Let your intuition guide you when nothing is as it seems. This is a great card for confronting your inner demons and facing the thing you’re afraid to face. You know, the thing that’s making you a LUNA-tic. If you stop suppressing your fears and really look at them, they no longer have power over you.

From there, trust that healing and clarity are stronger than self-doubt.

The Moon Reversed

Congratulations! You’ve shone a light on your fears and self-doubt. Suddenly, they appear smaller and less powerful than before. That’s good. Your confidence and sense of self are returning. You’ve proven to yourself that you know how to work through difficult emotions.

The Moon reversed is an invitation to trust your unique magic. Your path might not look like everyone else’s and that’s okay. No two paths are alike, so let go of any comparison anxieties. Nourish this newfound clarity and don’t take your intuition for granted. It will always set you right.
